The First Romanian School of Sfantu Gheorghe, Romania

Looking back over the generations

Although the first Romanian school was documented as early as the 14th century, all traces of it have been lost. The oldest surviving school is in Sf.Gheorghe and dates back to 1799, and has now been preserved as the First Romanian School Museum by the National Museum of the Eastern Carpathians. With a long history gleaned from archives and contemporary records the school had an excellent reputation and served generations of children, Today, the museum – the MNCR - is an important historical monument for the local community and for all Romanians.
