Advanced Specs Cut Energy Consumption and Extend Product Life
In developing the Ultra Thin LCD Series, we strive to make long-lasting products through repeated testing and minimize its impact on the environment with specs that contribute to energy saving and CO2 reduction.
- CO2 emissions reduced by approximately 70kg*1 annually compared to 10 years ago

- LCD panel life of approximately 60,000 hours*4
- Power-Saving Mode reduces energy consumption by optimizing screen brightness
- Auto power off when there is no operation or input signal for a certain period of time
*1 Comparison of annual CO2 emissions of W32-G1 (32″ (81cm V) CRT designed to Japan domestic specifications, Decades-old Model) and UT32-HV700 (32″ (81cm V) Ultra Thin LCD Series designed to Japan domestic specifications). W32-G1: approx. 130kg; UT32-HV700: approx. 60kg (figures from Hitachi tests).
*2 Annual energy consumption is the amount of power used in one year, calculated from the average family viewing time (4.5 hours) and from the screen size and type of receiver, and based on the Law Concerning the Rational Use of Energy.
*3 Compared W32-G1 (Japan domestic specifications, Decades-old Model)
*4 LCD panel life is estimated for usage in standard mode. For LCD panels, the life is the number of operating hours until the luminance of the backlight is reduced by half (through values and metrics using Hitachi TV sets). Times may differ due to usage conditions (screen settings and test image content) and usage environment (excluding damage).
Eco-friendly Efforts
Promoting Reduction and Recycling of Resources Used
- We have reduced the use of Styrofoam for packing material by approximately 16% (compared to L32-H01*)
- We have reduced exterior components by approximately 12% (compared to L32-H01*)
- We have begun using highly recyclable cardboard for a portion of the cushioning material

* 32” (81cmV) LCD TV, Japan domestic specifications
Reducing Gasoline Use and CO2 Emissions during Shipping
The lighter weight and thinner size of the Ultra thin LCD Series have increased loading capacity by 20% for improved shipping efficiency (compared to L32-H01*)

- By reducing the number of deliveries needed, we have significantly cut CO2 emissions.
Re-evaluating Materials
We reduced the types of materials used in our products for easier recycling at the time of disposal.
Fewer types of plastic materials, and product design that makes components easier to detach, disassemble and classify
Eco-friendly Use of Materials
To minimize our impact on the Environment, Hitachi is Working to Reduce the content of Specified Chemical substances in its Products *2
- Lead-free soldering of printed circuit boards and electric cords
- No use of hexavalent chromium in screws and steel plates
- Use of non-halogen flame retardants in cabinets
- Reduction of specified chemical substances in paints and use of more ecological “eco paints”
*2 Hitachi is also controlling the use of other chemical substances, with even more detailed classification of “prohibited” and “controlled” substances.
Our compliance with J-Moss
The J-Moss green mark is placed on products that contain amounts of specified chemical substances*3 below certain base levels as prescribed by the Japanese Industrial Standard for Marking the Presence of Specific Chemical Substances for Electrical and Electronic Equipment (J-Moss).
*3 Lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, PBB, and PBDE
Our Printed Materials Use Soybean Oil-based Inks.
We use natural materials that are ecological and easy to cultivate.
